There’s always that one autumn afternoon when the sun comes out and we decide patio season isn’t quite finished.
The chairs might already be tucked away. The cushions might need fetching from the basement. But suddenly, having a coffee outside sounds like the best idea anyone’s had all week.
Saying goodbye to patio season is a familiar part of Canadian lifestyle. We know colder days are coming, which makes a little afternoon warmth especially hard to waste. Out comes the favourite sweater, and someone grabs a blanket—just in case.
The garden looks different now. A few flowers are hanging on, leaves have gathered under the table, and the breeze sends another one drifting into your cup. You fish it out and stay put.
The dog is stretched out beside your chair, enjoying a patch of sunshine. Or perhaps you’ve finally got a quiet half-hour to yourself, with nothing more pressing than deciding whether it’s warm enough to take your sweater off.
It usually isn’t. But you consider it.
There’s no need to make an occasion of it. Coffee taste perfectly good outdoors, and an ordinary mug does the job. The pleasure is in being there while the afternoon is still inviting.
At Canadian Threads, we love finding a little outdoors in every season—even when it means moving your chair three times to follow the sun.
Eventually, the air cools and you carry everything inside. But you leave one chair handy.
Just in case tomorrow gives you another chance.
