Find Your Own Quiet Place

Find Your Own Quiet Place

It might be a bench beside a walking path, a chair tucked into the garden, or a spot along your favourite trail where you always slow down. Somewhere you can sit for a few minutes without needing to do much of anything.

Your quiet place doesn’t have to be far from home. Sometimes it’s right outside the back door.

There’s something comforting about returning to a familiar spot. You know where the afternoon sun falls, which branch the birds favour, and whether that bench needs a quick wipe after rain. Over time, you start noticing the small changes: new buds, fallen leaves, or a squirrel making an impressive amount of noise for such a little creature.

Finding peaceful places outdoors can begin with an ordinary neighbourhood walk. Look for somewhere you’d like to pause. A shady corner of a local park, a community garden, or a stretch of trail away from the busiest road might be just right.

Then give yourself permission to stop.

You don’t need to count your steps or take a photo. Sit comfortably, listen, and let your eyes wander. Some days you’ll have birdsong. Other days, a lawn mower will join in. Quiet doesn’t always mean silence.

A few minutes of time alone in nature can become a small habit you look forward to. Bring your morning coffee, visit after work, or stop during your weekend walk. There’s no perfect length of time. Stay long enough to enjoy being there.

And if you’re sharing the spot with someone, you don’t have to fill every pause with conversation. Watching the world together can be lovely, too.

Get up, get out and enjoy Canada. Somewhere nearby, there might be a bench with your name on it—at least for a little while. Sign up for our free hiking food guides and have all three delivered to your inbox.
