Dooby: My Favourite Walking Companion

Dooby: My Favourite Walking Companion

We went to a farm with the intention of bringing home a Great Pyrenees. Then I met Doobie.

His dad was a Great Pyrenees and his mum was a Border Collie. He was just a little fellow who fit perfectly on my lap. When I first picked him up, he cuddled into my arms, and that was it. I couldn’t put him down. He was coming home with us.

From the beginning, Doobie was a quiet, well-behaved puppy. He walked into our house, settled in front of the patio doors, and looked outside and occasionally napped.. Every so often, he’d come over for a pet before returning to his view of the outdoors. We took him outside several time everyday and he was house trained from the first day.

He went to puppy school so we could learn how to teach him properly. He caught on quickly and was the top dog in his class!

He’s a big dog now, but he still loves being outside. Walking with him is my favourite part of our life together. He enjoys exploring the trail, stays close, and knows there’s usually a treat waiting when we call him back.

Of course, he has his quirks. The neighbourhood squirrels certainly know who he is, and he finds a game of chase hard to resist.

One of his favourite stops on the Trans Canada Trail is the creek near the bridge. He doesn’t venture very deep, but he loves splashing around at the edge. Then he comes back up and shakes water all over us. Apparently, we’re supposed to share the experience!

That’s Doobie: smart, gentle, a little mischievous, and always happy to head outdoors.

Welcome to Doobie’s Corner, where I’ll share little stories from our walks and everyday life together.
